The story of iMelo begins in 2014, following a trip to Turkey, where hundreds of street vendors sell fresh pomegranate juice on the streets.
The first taste was love at first sip (“Wow, it’s amazing!”), and after discovering the countless benefits of this super fruit, we decided to bring the healthy habit of enjoying a “delicious and wholesome pomegranate juice” to our country, to be enjoyed every day.
iMelo was the first company in Italy to offer pomegranates 365 days a year.
We are the only Italian distributor that always guarantees high-quality pomegranates at a fixed price, with certified origin, grown 100% naturally, without the use of pesticides or any other chemicals.
The word pomegranate comes from the Latin “malum” (apple) and “granatum” (seeded). The pomegranate has long been a fruit rich in symbolic meaning: there are as many stories and legends about the pomegranate as there are seeds in it!
The pomegranate was highly valued by the wandering Israelites, who expressed their longing to return to the Promised Land “where figs, pomegranates, and olive trees grow.”
The poet of the Song of Songs mentions the pomegranate no fewer than six times, comparing his beloved to “a grove of pomegranates,” whose cheeks resemble “a split pomegranate.”
It has been suggested that, in these contexts, the pomegranate symbolized holiness, abundance, and fidelity.
In China, the primary meaning of the pomegranate has been fertility.
Indeed, Buddha is often depicted holding a pomegranate, a peach, and a cedar: these three fruits respectively symbolize an abundance of children, longevity, and happiness.
In Turkey, a bride traditionally determined how many children she would have by smashing a pomegranate on the ground and counting the seeds that spilled out.
The ancient Greeks believed that the pomegranate tree sprang from the blood of Dionysus, the god of wine. The fruit was also associated with Persephone, who, because of it, was forced by Pluto to spend a third of the year in the underworld. After this period, Persephone returned to the earth, marking the beginning of spring. The pomegranate thus became a symbol of rejuvenation and eternal life.
